Dorothy Hancock's legacy
Dorothy and William Hancock started the first fabric store to carry the "Hancock" name in 1952 in Batesville, Mississippi. This newspaper article from 1989 interviews Mrs. Dorothy Hancock (mother of our store's founder, Rowland Hancock and grandmother to Justin and Blann who operate the store now).
When Maria’s Sky arrived, it looked like a typical reproduction fabric. However, it's named for Maria Mitchell, who among other accomplishments was America's first female professional astronomer.
Hancock’s of Paducah History
In 1969, Rowland Hancock and his wife Susan moved to Paducah, KY to open a fabric store on the advice of his uncle. Rowland grew up in his parents' fabric store in Mississippi, and now two of his sons operate the business.
