When the Wizard of Oz was released in 1939, the world had been consumed by an economic depression. Much of the landscape seemed as bleak, bland, brown, and hopeless as a stereotypical Kansas plain. The film depicts this time in the pre-Oz scenes with drab sepia dominating the colorscape. Then, when Dorothy opens her eyes following the whirlwind, an amazing technicolor world is dramatically unveiled. This scene marked the debut of color film on the big screen and symbolically represented a new era of hope. What a wonderful sentiment in our troubled times, to unveil a new era of hope. "Just wanted to let you know I received my fabric order from you today. It was pouring down rain here in Oklahoma, but the Fed. Ex. truck hand delivered my fabric in a well protected plastic waterproof covering with not a drop of water on the fabric. I was so worried it would be ruined because I have no front porch cover on my house and packages left are subjected to whatever weather conditions are "rolling through."
